Story
In April 2025, at just 43, I was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma. I had no prior history of skin cancer, had been diligent with annual skin checks, and had no symptoms. Yet suddenly I was faced with the confronting news that cancer had spread throughout my body.
In an instant, my world turned upside down as I was given a prognosis no one ever wants to hear: “You have a 50% chance that treatment will be successful. We recommend you get your affairs in order”.
With young children, a partner I adore, two beautiful sisters, and a very close-knit family, odds like a coin flip simply weren’t high enough for me.
So, this Sunday 15 March, I’ll be taking part in the Melanoma March to raise funds for the Melanoma Institute. I want to help create a future where melanoma is detected earlier, treated more effectively, and ultimately cured — because I never want my children, or the people I love, to face the kind of prognosis I was given.
